Current Projects

Since its establishment in 2014, AVC Tanzania has successfully implemented several projects: Economic Empowerment, Invest in One Child, Disability Empowerment, After School project, Eradicate Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Project, and Ending Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (D-GBV) in Tanzania.

At AVC, we are committed to empowering underserved communities through a range of impactful projects that promote access to quality education, poverty alleviation, WASH, and gender equality. Our current ongoing project(s) and campaign(s) include:

A: Information and Communications Technology (ICT), and Innovation

1. DigiPreneurs Project

Youth in Digital Economy Project

The Youth in Digital Economy Project aims to provide essential ICT and digital knowledge to young entrepreneurs in our community, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in the digital economy. This project targets survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), people with disabilities, and other vulnerable women and girls, empowering them to become economic leaders and improve their livelihood.

2. Tech4Her Project

The Tech4Her Project focuses on bridging the gender gap in ICT and STEM education by equipping vulnerable young girls, including students with essential digital knowledge and computer skills, empowering them to excel in STEM and address community challenges.

The AVC Digital Community Library supports this by providing free educational resources to all, ensuring equal access to information. With both online and offline access using library computers, the library enables vulnerable girls and young women in Tanzania to fully exercise their right to education, thereby supporting the successful implementation of the Tech4Her and DigiPreneurs Projects. The library also provides free educational resources to other community members.

B: Health and Wellbeing

1. Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) Project

Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH)

In communities where menstruation is stigmatized, the Safe Menstruation for Girls project aims to break the silence and foster understanding about menstruation. This project provides safe and accurate sexual reproductive health (SRH) education, empowering girls to make informed decisions about their health (menstruation education).  Additionally, by providing monthly hygiene supplies, we encourage girls to stay in school, ensuring they continue to receive the education that can dramatically change their lives.

C: Women's Economic Empowerment

1. Vocational Training Project

To economically empower vulnerable groups in the communities, including women, girls, and people with disabilities, AVC offers vocational skills training in areas such as tailoring, garment making and designing, and handcraft making.

Storytelling

“The inspiration for our vocational training programs began with Janeth, a single mother of three who struggled to make ends meet after losing her job. With limited opportunities and no formal education, Janeth found it challenging to provide for her family. Despite her circumstances, Janeth had a talent for tailoring, but without the resources to develop her skills, her potential remained untapped.

Janeth’s story is one of resilience and determination. She approached AVC with the hope of gaining skills that could help her build a sustainable livelihood. Seeing her determination, we realized the profound impact vocational training could have on individuals like Janeth.”

We started the vocational training programs to provide opportunities for people to learn marketable skills, gain financial independence, and uplift their families and communities
